Prints & Plates

Preview: 24 April, 7:30pm onwards.  All welcome

Exhibition Dates: 25 April - 30 May
When is a print, not a print? Probably never. However, there seems to be a general perception that prints are always reproductions/copies of original works. This is not the case.  And with the rise of 'limited edition prints' the landscape becomes still more confusing.

Prints & Plates is an exhibition showcasing a diverse range of original work from contemporary printmakers. Alongside which, their plates, or information about the process used to make each piece, will be displayed. These images are 'prints' as they have been made, for the most part, by using a press. Although we have for the first time included digital prints in this exhibition, as artists are increasingly using digital files instead of the traditional plates from which the art work is printed.

These prints only exist in that form.  There is no 'original' from which the image has been taken.  These 'prints' are the artwork itself.  There may be more than one, but they are all original works.    Etching, aquatint, drypoint, mezzotint, silkscreen, linocut, woodblock, collagraph, monotype, carborundum, solar print, lithography, digital and a number of other processes will be represented in the exhibition.
